In honor of Black History Month Mom's Fixins wants to show appreciation to yours truly, "Mom". As displayed in her restaurant, Mom was born in Sweethome, Arkansas. Growing up in a three bedroom one bathroom home with seven brothers and two sisters, has made mom the humble and appreciative woman she is today. Mom grew up during the Civil Rights Movement at a time where this country was racially and morally divided. Being the daughter of a preacher, her sense of moral ethics and spirituality was embedded deep in her roots. In a place and time where school was not always top priority, Mom still graduated high school. After high school she also attended Devry and later attended Phoenix Culinary Institute. Mom's priorities and goals in life changed after she had three kids of her own. Taking a job with a well known insurance company, Mom had made the move from Arkansas to Arizona. Since Mom was a little girl in that three bed/one bath house, she has been cooking for others. With a deep passion and love for cooking she always had the desire and ambition to one day have her own restaurant. This goal came to a sudden holt when Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. This was a devastating experience for her and her family. With her kids and loved ones by her side, Mom's faith and strength proved to be overpowering to this life threatening disease. Now, being cancer free for 16 years her path in life became crystal clear. After working at her job for over 24 years Mom decided to retire and wasting no time, she opened her own restaurant the very next month. Her childhood dream is now her everyday reality @MomsFixinsAz. This authentic southern style restaurant is now approaching its one year anniversary. With Mom's Fixins growing success she has proven that no matter your race or gender nobody is a victim to their circumstance, and anyone can be a product of their own aspirations.
